If you want a delicious steak, you will want to make a trip to PJ's. Our family has been eating here for years at least once a month and we are never disappointed. They also have a wonderfully fresh salad bar with homemade salad dressings and homemade pickles. Jerome, the owner, has a passion to make his customers happy. There are many other delicious food items available, but the steaks are top notch.

The place has recently reopened and my dad invited me to go to lunch with him and my mom after church today. We walked in, read the menu on the whiteboard, took a seat, and decided to eat at the medium-sized buffet table served cafeteria-style.
Looking around, the customers were mostly of an older generation - 50s to 80s.
Mom was first. She chose the dressing w/ gravy, mashed potatoes w/ gravy, green beans, and sweet potato casserole. Dad went with dressing w/ gravy, broccoli w/ cheese, boiled cabbage, and okra. I chose hamburger steak, okra, mashed potatoes w/ gravy, and sweet potato casserole. All three of us went with cornbread.
I'll start off by saying I didn't have any issues with my food. My only complaint was no one ever came around to refill our tea glasses until just before we left.
Mom felt other than her cornbread tasting dry and stale (like it was cooked yesterday), her lunch "wasn't that bad."
Dad was the one who had the biggest issue. His dressing was dry and they didn't put extra gravy on it even after he'd asked. He also wasn't a fan of the taste. Really felt it needed more sage. His broccoli was undercooked and hard - which is a difficult thing when you're older with dentures. He, along with just about anyone in that older generation, couldn't eat them. Lastly, he felt his okra was undercooked. He also agreed with mom on the dry cornbread. He probably ate 1/4 of his food.
I beat dad to the register and told the young lady not to ask Dad how it was unless she really wanted to hear. She said she did and then asked him. "It was awful," he said. "Lousy. Not what I was hoping for at all. I'm really disappointed."
The young lady sympathetically apologized then unsympathetically asked for the full $32.00 +/- for the meal.
Ever since Ryan's closed in Jasper, Dad's been looking for somewhere to go for the food he likes: home cooked meats and vegetables. Victoria's is the only option in Jasper and Lee's is the only option in Sumiton with nothing really in between.
We have no plans on trying PJs again. -

Love the steak with P J sauce. Decent salad bar too with great home made ranch dressing. I also enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich and grilled shrimp. Something for everyone.
